2 REPRESENTATION OF SOCIAL GROUPS
The main social groups represented in our film are primary groups for rugby and music.
Character Interview
In our character interview, we used Xander to play himself in the future. The reasoning behind filming this interview was to endeavour to add depth to the understanding of our protagonist (Xander). As a group we took the idea from 'Riding the Alligator - Pen Densham' - an oscar nominated filmmaker with over 300 hours of TV under his belt. In one of his books, he provides a check list of questions every writer and director should ask themselves when they are developing their characters. This was to open up our understanding of who our characters actually are.
We asked Ryan to question Xander on various aspects of his role in our film '9'. Questions ranged from 'What has been your biggest achievement in life?' to 'Who was your main motivation in life?'. This allowed us to show Xander in his true representation, and further adds an aspect of realism to the film. Unfortunately, I couldn't upload the video onto Blogger as the file was too big, but I used one of my 'New Technologies', YouTube to showcase it. You can click on the thumbnail to view this.
By making this interview, it allows me to take screenshots and short clips which I can feed onto our Twitter and other social media platforms to give teasers.
Character Comparison
I have chosen to use Xander from our film opening, and then Matt Damon from the film 'Invictus'. I have chosen to compare these two characters as they appear in two very similar films. Our film opening is about a choice of Rugby or Music, whilst being a very good rugby player. Invictus is about captaining South Africa to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup. The similarities of these two characters are firstly, that they are both the protagonist in the film about Rugby. They show leadership qualities and are both seen to be very alpha male and strong.
The costumes/attire of the characters throughout the film are mostly based on clothing that one would normally associate with Rugby. This is because they both play rugby, and are often seen training. The two characters in these films are both male, and are of the same ethnic background. The age of the characters is different, as in our film opening Xander is a young player, starting out his career. Whereas in 'Invictus', Matt Damon stars as an experienced player, Francois Pienaar.
Social Groups (Pinterest)
Below, I have screenshots of my Pinterest board. They show different social groups that relate to my film opening, such as 'Sports', 'Rugby', and 'Sports Films'.

Excellent response to the question of how your character is representative of rugby players. You link your protagonist to Matt Damon in 'Invictus'; you have curated detailed Pinterest boards on sportsmen;and you devise, script, film and edit an imaginary chat show interview with your protagonist in which he explains his love of rugby, his father's role in developing his career and his passion for music. Creative and imaginative work.
